If you love handmade unique accessories then this beautiful medium lined punch needle (tapizada) Wayuu mochila bag is for you. Crafted by indigenous artisans of the Wayuu Tribe in Colombia, this bag recreates with intricate patterns the life and beliefs of this culture. Each bag is crocheted with precision and durability by a single member of the community.

The creation and meaning of each bag have been passed through many generations. This bag is versatile, fashionable, trendy and great for any occasion.

The tapizada bag is made using the punch needle embroidery technique, resulting in stunning textile art. A unique bag that originates on the Northeast most tip of La Guajira Peninsula in Colombia called “Punta Gallinas”. Unlike the rest of the peninsula and its vast, untamed desert, this specific area has a fertile and rich land. The imagery on each bag represents such diversity in flora and fauna.

Through the motifs, the Wayuu weavers share their cosmological view of the universe and their traditions.

Thanks to the generous donations of many Isasuma's supporters we are now sending drinking water donations to the Wayuu on a recurrent basis. Each truck delivers 1,000 liters of clean water to about 3 communities. You can too become a hero for this community: https://gofund.me/103b031a

We travel and work directly with a small group of entrepreneur indigenous women head of household who craft these bags. It is heritage, life style and economic fulfillment for this community.
Part of Isasuma’s mission is to support and empower small and at risk communities such as the Wayuu Tribe. The lack of governmental support and a harsh deserted environment make these bags probably their only sustainable economic way out of deadly hunger and thirst.
